How to reduce udhaar (credit) losses in your shop
Udhaar builds loyalty and it also locks your cash. The aim is not to stop it, but to give it with limits, records and a routine for asking.
Set a limit for every customer
Decide how much credit each customer may have, based on how they pay. When a new bill takes the customer above the limit, stop and ask for a payment first.
Write every udhaar as a bill
An udhaar noted on paper is easy to forget and easy to dispute. A bill with the date, items and amount is a record both sides can see.
Give a due date
“Pay when you can” rarely works. Put a due date on the bill, such as 7 or 15 days, and mention it when you give the goods.
Remind early and politely
Send a short message on the due date, not a month later. A friendly tone first, a firmer one only if needed. Our free reminder message tool writes it for you in English, Hindi or Hinglish.
- Mention the amount and the bill date
- Offer an easy way to pay, such as UPI
- Keep the tone respectful
Make paying easy
Customers pay faster when it takes one tap. Share a UPI QR or a payment link on WhatsApp and match the payment to the bill so the balance updates.
Watch the ageing
Look every week at who owes you, and for how long. An old balance is a sign to stop further credit until it is cleared.
With software
Dukkan Bill shows every customer’s balance, flags credit limits, sends payment links and reminders from the bill, and keeps the ageing report one click away.
Make this easier with Dukkan Bill
Make an invoice on the spot, check what is left in the godown, collect a payment, and read today’s sales. Same account, same stores, same invoice series as on the computer.
